Your Ground Cumin May Have Been Recalled for Salmonella

Food distributor Lipari Foods issued a voluntary recall after it was discovered that a certain batch of Lipari branded ground cumin bars were potentially contaminated with salmonella and were distributed in 16 states. Salmonella can cause serious or fatal infections in young children, the elderly, or people with weak immune systems, while healthier people usually suffer from fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.

Which states are affected by the cumin recall?

The recalled cumin has been delivered to retail stores in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin. .

The packaging is a regular clear plastic container labeled ” ground cumin ” and ” Distributed by Lipari Foods ” with a white label. The six ounce jar has batch code “220914601”, expiration date “09/2024” and UPC “094776212620” on the bottom of the container. At the time of this writing, there have been no reports of illness associated with the recall.

The company became aware of the salmonella after the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services tested a sample of cumin and found traces in it. They then alerted the FDA and the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, who then informed the food distribution company.
