This Southwest Airlines Deal Will Let Your Companion Fly for Free

Southwest Airlines is running a promotion that won’t last long: if you buy a ticket before April 5 to fly anytime before May 24, you’ll get a “companion pass” that allows you to take someone with you anytime you fly between August and September 15 to September 30, 2023. However, there are some caveats to be aware of.

To be eligible for the promotion, you must have an account with Southwest Airlines and register for the promotion. You can create an account here and then select “register now” on the main page or click here to register for the promotion. You will need the Rapid Rewards number you received when you created your account in order to register for the promotion. You should see a green check mark when you have successfully registered.

Once you’ve done both, sign in to your account and proceed to select flights. The flight you buy before April 5 must be a round-trip flight or two one-way flights; you cannot use Rapid Reward points to pay for a trip; and you must arrive before May 24th to activate the promotion. Once you have done so, you will receive a “companion pass” by email within 10 days, allowing you to bring someone with you on any flights you take between August 15 and September 30, 2023 “free of charge for airlines.” This means your companion will still be subject to taxes and “fees”. You cannot register your companion until you receive your pass, although you can buy a ticket before then; you can change your companion’s name up to three times.
