Park Those Ram Trucks Outside in Case They Catch Fire
Stellantis, the parent company of Fiat-Chrysler, is voluntarily recalling more than 300,000 Ram diesel pickups for electrical connector replacement after reports of six fires. The company recommends that these trucks be parked outside to prevent the potential spread of fire, at least until repairs are made.
What is a review for?
The company found that some trucks could potentially overheat and cause a fire in the engine bay due to the “intake manifold heater grill relay”. The recall states that a short circuit in the relay could potentially set the car on fire with the ignition on or off. And for the protection of property owners and the safety of others, they recommend that these vehicles not be parked inside buildings or structures, or near other vehicles, until the recall is completed.
As of February 2, 2023, Stellantis has identified six customer assistance records, three warranty claims, and six field reports potentially related to this issue; however, the report also states that the company is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to it.
What vehicles are being recalled?
The following vehicles with a 6.7L Cummins turbodiesel engine are subject to the recall:
- 2021-2023 RAM 2500
- 2021-2023 RAM 3500
- 2021-2023 Ram 3500 Cab Chassis
- 2021-2023 Chassis cab RAM 4500
- 2021-2023 Chassis cab RAM 5500
What should I do if my car has been recalled?
Stellantis will replace the relays with new internally fused relays free of charge on all affected vehicles through dealerships. They ask customers to send them any receipts or any proof of expenses you may have paid out of pocket as a result of the issue for a refund. Stellantis will notify dealers and owners around March 31, 2023.
