How to Get New IPhone Emoticons in Advance

Who doesn’t love new emojis? There are 21 new emojis to try in Apple’s upcoming iOS 16.4, including a new emoji, a pink heart, and a jellyfish. But you don’t have to wait for Apple to release iOS 16.4 to the public – you can try them out right now.

All new emoji in iOS 16.4

Surprisingly, there is only one new smiley emoji in this new batch, Shaking Face, which I imagine will have quite a few uses, from expressing bewilderment about a situation to rollercoaster shock. There are three new colored hearts (blue, grey, pink) as well as hands pushing left and right. The last two emojis, as Emojipedia cleverly says, can be combined to create a high-five emoji.

We have six new animals and animal-related emojis to choose from, including black bird, donkey, elk, goose, wing and jellyfish, as well as two new products (pea pod and ginger). You’ll also find a new folding fan, hair clip, flute, maracas, wireless symbol, hyacinth, and Khandu (Sikh symbol of faith). That’s 21, but when you factor in all the different skin tone variations for the “pushing hands” emoji, there are a total of 31 new emojis in the set.

What else is new in iOS 16.4?

The new emojis are definitely the main feature of iOS 16.4, but there are other interesting benefits to look out for. Websites can now send notifications to your iPhone when you add them to your home screen, mimicking web notifications on a Mac. there’s a new “5G Standalone” setting that can boost 5G speeds up to 3Gbps (T-Mobile only); podcasts now have channels in the library, and Up Next has been updated for both iOS and CarPlay.

How to update to iOS 16.4 earlier

The first public beta of iOS 16.4 is here, which means anyone with an iPhone 8 or later can install the beta and try out these new emojis. However, just be aware that installing beta software on your device is a risky prospect: beta software is, by definition, a work in progress, which means you run the risk of running into performance issues and other software quirks. If you choose to remove the beta software from your iPhone, you will have to restore the device, which may result in data loss, so be sure to back up in iTunes or Finder before proceeding.

However, installing the beta is quite simple. Go to the Apple beta site on your iPhone and sign in with your Apple ID. Scroll down to Get Started, then click Register iOS Device. Here, scroll down and click “Download Profile”. Once downloaded, open Settings, tap a profile, and follow the instructions to install it. When the profile completes installation, go to Settings > General > Software Update and update your iPhone to iOS 16.4.
