How to Try Microsoft’s New ChatGPT Based AI Search
While there are many search engines out there, I’m assuming that you are probably using Google. (Most people do.) Even if you have a PC, you’re likely to ignore Microsoft’s requests to use Bing in favor of the search engine you’ve been using for years. However, Bing is getting a huge update soon that may finally convince Google users to switch: and to try out Bing ChatGPT’s upcoming integration into your search engine, you can sign up for the waitlist today.
What is ChatGPT?
By now, you probably know about ChatGPT . By the end of 2022, the AI-powered chatbot had taken over the internet, destroying active user records left and right. Part of that appeal came from OpenAI’s decision to make the ChatGPT beta free to use, while the rest came from the tool’s ability to do just about anything you asked of it.
Ask ChatGPT a simple question and it will answer in a conversational tone. Ask him to write you a story, a poem or a joke, and he will do it too. You can even ask him to write code for you and then rework that code when you give him critiques. It’s impressive and intimidating – and the perfect companion to search for.
How Microsoft integrated ChatGPT into Bing
Of course, everyone and their mothers now want to deal with AI. However, as it turns out, Microsoft is a major investor in OpenAI and is working on integrating AI into its Bing search engine . Soon you will be able to ask Bing the same questions as ChatGPT, but with access to the knowledge and data of the entire web.
For example, let’s say you want to plan an anniversary vacation for yourself and your partner. You can ask the new Bing: “We are planning a trip in September for our anniversary. We will fly to London. Where are interesting destinations within a three-hour drive from the city? What should we do in London?
We are not accustomed to asking search engines such complex queries, but this is how everything will happen. When your results come back, you will see the usual list of relevant articles, but more importantly, you will see your AI friend typing the answer on the right. When the bot responds, you will see the sources attached to those responses, so you can visit each site to learn more.
What’s more, you can refine your search results using the Bing chatbot feature: just talk to the bot to explain what you want to see differently, and you’ll get new results based on that feedback. You can also use this chat feature to keep the “conversation” going. If you’re trying to learn something new, like a famous writer, Bing will give you the initial information. You can then ask for more information or ask more specific questions, such as which of their works are the most famous and which are the most controversial. Like ChatGPT, the new Bing can just send you down the rabbit hole on whatever topic you’re interested in (and I can’t wait).
In the future, you will also be able to ask Bing to build something for you just like ChatGPT, but as of the latest version of Windows, this is limited at the moment . When they asked Bing to write them a cover letter, the AI refused, saying it would be “unethical and dishonest.” Well, ChatGPT doesn’t mind being unethical and dishonest, I suppose, so rely on the AI bot itself for this kind of work.
Microsoft is also working on bringing these AI features to Bing on iOS and Android, but it’s only on desktop for now.
How to subscribe to the new Bing
Microsoft has opened up the new Bing to select testers, so it won’t be available to most users just yet. However, you can sign up for a waiting list to try it out earlier. To get started, go to this link , then click “Join Waiting List”. Sign in to your Microsoft account, then follow the onscreen instructions to complete the registration. Once Microsoft grants you access, you will receive an email.
In the meantime, you can see what the new AI-integrated Bing search will look like. Return to this same link , then scroll through the “Ask something” section. Microsoft has 12 search examples that you can use if you’re trying to create a three-course menu or plan a new workout regime, for example.
