The Two Easiest Ways to Put on a Duvet Cover
Making the bed is one of my least favorite things to do. First, it’s an all-out war on stretch sheets. Then, if you’re particularly unlucky, there’s a second duvet cover battle. Stuffing a blanket into a cover is an agonizing process that usually involves trying to stuff it evenly before getting frustrated and resigned to the fact that it will be lumpy. What if we tell you there is a better way? Actually there are two best ways.
Method One: Burrito Style
This hack has actually been around for a while, but it periodically gets a new life on social media by introducing it to a new audience, as we found it recently. Turn the duvet cover inside out and place it on the bed with the zippered side to the foot. Put the blanket itself on top and roll them together, forming a spiral. (It’s less like a burrito and more like a cinnamon bun, but it’s not such a catchy name.)
From there, wrap the open end of the cap around the entire tube so that both ends meet. Hold on to the end and roll it back. Your duvet is now under the cover. If this doesn’t make sense as you read it, check out this video from Piglet in Bed, a bedding company:
Method Two: The Tie Method
For this method, recommended by Lifehacker Senior Health Editor Beth Skwarecki, you’ll need a duvet cover with ties inside. (If you don’t have ties inside, sew them to the inside corners of the cover. Turn the cover inside out and attach two pieces of tape to each of the four corners.)
First lay a duvet cover on the bed. Then turn the bedspread inside out and lay it on top of the duvet. Tie ties or pieces of ribbon around each corner of the quilt and turn right side out. The quilt will stay in place thanks to the ties.
