11 Vast Cinematic Universes That Are Not Marvel or Star Wars
Did the idea of a third Ant-Man and the Wasp upset you? Tired of the fourteenth spin-off of the third Star Wars movie? I’m here to praise, not bury the vast multimedia universes, but Marvel, DC, Star Wars , and (increasingly) even Star Trek consume a lot of oxygen in a room (and you know how much oxygen there is in space).
Cinematic universes are big business right now and everyone is trying to get a piece of what Marvel has created. Most aren’t so lucky ( there’s a reboot underway in Washington ; Universal’s attempt at a modern monster verse quickly fell apart; Sony’s plans for a chain of Spider-Man-adjacent films crumble after ” Morbius “). And yet, the studios continue to try: the 4th chapter of John Wick will be released soon, and the spin-offs and the series are already in development. There is too much money at stake to stop at one movie, or at least one quadrilogy.
If none of this sounds particularly appealing, but you still have some time, there are other vast universes of TV/film, past and present that can satisfy your imagination.
