Do You Need a Mesh Laundry Bag for the Dishwasher
Do you know the little pouches that can be used in the washing machine for laundry and other delicate items? You can also use them in the dishwasher. Think of all the small items you catch at the end of each cycle – they can all be placed in a mesh bag and still be as clean as they were without. This is especially true for the types of small items that have been lost or broken inside your dishwasher in the past.
What to wash in the dishwasher in a mesh bag
Here is a partial list of possible items for your mesh bag:
- Tupperware lids
- small plates
- molds
- The tiny spoon you use to serve sugar on unusual occasions
- Lids for non-spill cups
- Barbecue
- Stir sticks
- reusable straws
Also, consider that there is a whole world of non-kitchen items that you don’t put in the dishwasher yet, but should. We have written in the past about washing the hood filter, grates and drip trays in the dishwasher. The stove handles and burner grates are also small and dirty, and can be thrown into a mesh bag. Use it for other household items too:
- Small children’s toys such as building blocks or figurines.
- Sponges
- Brushes (for painting, makeup or something else)
- Baby bottles and related accessories
The difference between a mesh bag and a silverware container
You might be thinking, “They already make silverware containers for things like this.” And this is true, up to a certain point. Not all of these things, like small plates, will fit into the slots of the silverware basket; in addition, the trolley is usually designed for the bottom shelf, which is not as soft as the top one. With a simple mesh bag, you can choose which items will be washed harder or gentler by simply moving it from shelf to shelf on each cycle. And they’re pretty inexpensive: you can get five on Amazon for $8.99 . This is enough to put some items on a soft shelf and some on a rougher one at the same time.
