You Can Save so Much Money at Junk Stores
This aftermarket industry saw a significant uptick in the first months of 2022, as shipments from many large retailers got stuck on freighters and then arrived all at once. Many of these retailers dumped much of this surplus merchandise at salvage stores and disposal sites, and you can still find many of these deals today if you’re close enough to a salvage store.
What are rescue depots?
Recycling stores take all surplus items from big retailers like Target, Amazon, Walmart and Wayfair, dispose of them and sell them at heavily discounted prices. Their goal is not to make big profits on every single item, but to sell quickly and get rid of large retailers’ stock quickly. You can usually find things like furniture, linens, kitchen supplies, seasonal and home décor, appliances, toys, and a bunch of other stuff.
Are liquidation outputs very different?
Liquidation stores, similar to second-hand stores, buy excess stock from retailers but store items in warehouses and sell items online by the piece or on pallets through bidding. Some have shops where small items are poured into large boxes for people to buy at a fairly discounted price. Be aware that most products in retail outlets are either returned, refurbished, or fall under some other similar category. If that suits you, you can find great deals.
Some popular recycling and liquidation stores
This is by no means an exhaustive list, but here are some of the most well-known recycling and disposal stores. Most of these shops are local or only in certain areas of the country. Check out their “Find Us” section or google the name of the stores to see if you’re close to one. If you recognize the store’s name because you’ve driven past it before, you should finally stop by and look through it somehow.

Aubrey Swan, a blogger, has put together a great list of secondhand stores that specifically sell Target products and items from some other retailers. The list is organized by state and city and is updated as readers find more stores. Most people have one of the stores within reach.
