Discover the World of Custom Widgets for IPhone
You’ve probably seen iPhone home screens that just look cool , with dynamic text, fun images, and custom icons… but even with the new iOS 16 lock screen editor, there’s no way to use Apple’s built-in tools to create them. To do this, you need to look outside.
Luckily, there’s an easy way to turn a boring iPhone home screen into something interesting and fun without getting into all that “home screen aesthetic”. All you need is a dedicated widget app like Widgy .
You can create your own graphics widget from scratch using the app’s Photoshop-like editor, but it’s quite labor intensive. Instead, you can use the power of the online community to bypass the beautiful home screen. The app has a research page where you can import any widget you like; and what’s even better is that Reddit has a thriving community where users share links and codes to their own widget creations, so you can borrow from those who came before you. The setup can be a little tricky, but hang in there because the results are impressive.
How to Customize Widgy Widget on iPhone Home Screen
If you want, you can go to the Create section to create the entire widget from a blank canvas, but there’s a much easier way to get started. Go to the Browse page, scroll through the popular widgets and choose the one you like. On the details page, click the Import button to add it to your collection.
Go to the Create page and you will find the widget under the Imported section. Open it and click the Edit button to enter the full editor. Here you can click on any element to change the position, color, size and more. When you’re happy, click the Back button to save your changes.
Then assign the widget to the slot. Go to the Manage tab, find the appropriate widget size, and click on an empty slot. Then select the imported widget, complete its screen position, and you’re done. (With the free version, you can create an unlimited number of widgets, but you can only use one widget space. Spending $4.99 will get you past those limits.)
On the home screen, press and hold an empty part of the screen to enter edit mode. Click the ” Plus ” button and add the appropriate Widgy widget (for me it was ” Big #1 “). And here it is, the transformed home screen.
How to import Widgy Widget
Consider this just the beginning of your journey to Widgy – you should spend some time learning all the great widgets the community creates (by integrating calendar, weather, tasks, and more). You’ll find the best stuff at r/Widgy and r/iOSsetups .
Widgy widgets can be imported in several ways. Users can share QR codes specially made for Widgy, or you can enter a simple URL. You will find both of these options in the image, in the description, or in the comments. Open the Widgy app, select ” Create ” > ” Import ” to see all the options. You can directly scan the QR code, and if necessary, you can also import it using a URL or a JSON file.
