You Can Visit Sundance Without Going to Utah
The 2023 Sundance Film Festival returns this week in Park City, Utah, but you don’t have to travel to enjoy a busy film schedule. After several years of partially virtual (or only virtual) programming, it seems like online shows aren’t going anywhere.
Festival pass features seem to change a bit every year – as usual, all-access packages for both online showing and in-person viewing are long gone. However, single tickets for many films are still available, so you can celebrate at home on your own schedule from January 24th to 29th.
How to buy movie screening tickets online
Before doing anything, you need to create a Festival account (or sign in if you already have one) and agree to the terms of service. From there, go to the ticket sales page , find the online box office for single movie tickets, and click “Select Screening”.
Find the movies you want to watch and click “Select Movie” to add the ticket to your cart. Once you’ve selected your impressions, go to your shopping cart and follow the checkout process . A one-way ticket costs $20 plus a service fee. The Explorer Online Pass, which gives you access to shorts and indie movies, is also still available for $25.
Films will air to online viewers on Tuesday, January 24 at 8:00 am BST and will be available until 11:55 pm BST on Sunday, January 29, the last day of the festival. The winners will be available starting January 28 at 08:00 Moscow time.
Unlike in years past, when on-demand movies were shown only at certain times, you can choose when to start watching at home at any time in the above window. You simply have to finish feature films within five hours of starting playback (with possible exceptions for certain longer films), while indie films have a 12-hour viewing window. How to watch movie screenings online
When you’re ready to start watching, sign in to your account, go to “My Schedule” and click “Watch Now” next to the title of the movie. You’ll also find a “Watch Now” button on the movie’s info page.
You can watch movies on almost any device, but note that you won’t be able to mirror them from your computer to your TV. Sundance lists the following technical guidelines :
- Windows 10+ PC (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera)
- Apple Mac on macOS 10.12+ (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera)
- Apple TV, Fire TV, or Roku via the Sundance Film Festival Player TV app.
- Android tablets and phones in Chrome
- iPhone and iPad in Safari
- Chromecast via computer or Android phone
Finally, please note that even if you buy two tickets for the same movie, you can only watch it once. To watch it a second time, you must transfer the ticket to another participant with a festival account.
