You Can Really Repel the Dust
Like the ever-growing piles of laundry and dirty dishes in your home, dust is an ongoing battle. But it is one thing to regularly remove dust from surfaces, and quite another to not allow it to be collected at all – at least as long as possible. We’re all talking about removal methods here , but now it’s time to move on to step 2: mirror it as soon as it’s gone.
As it turns out, there’s an easy way to repel dust from household surfaces, and like most good cleaning hacks, it’s been around for generations. You just need some oil. There are several recipes for homemade dust sprays, but they all require the same things. According to Apartment Therapy , you only need four ingredients:
- Vinegar
- Olive oil
- some soap
- Water
Together, they create a sort of coating that keeps dust from adhering to your tables, shelves, your entertainment center—whatever. You can also add a few drops of essential oil if you want your new blend to leave a nice scent behind.
How to make dust repellent spray
Mix two cups of water, one cup of vinegar, and two tablespoons of olive oil, plus one to two drops of dish soap. Mix everything together.
Vinegar and soap will easily remove any existing dust, so you can – and definitely should – use the new mixture to not only coat surfaces, but to clean them when they’re dirty. The oil will help repel dust and keep it clean longer. Use this as you would any dust spray by spraying it onto a rag or directly onto hard surfaces and then wiping it off.
Pour the mixture into a spray bottle and keep it handy for dusting. For an extra repellent effect, according to Apartment Therapy, use a dryer sheet to wipe off the dust. Fabric softener also prevents dust from settling.
