Your Jeep’s Engine May Just Stall.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is voluntarily recalling about 62,000 Jeep Wrangler 4xe electric hybrid SUVs due to an unknown engine shutdown issue, according to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) report .
Which Jeeps are being recalled?
The recall applies to MY Jeep Wrangler 4xe SUV vehicles equipped with a 2.0-liter Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) from the following years:
- 2021 MY Jeep Wrangler 4xe
- 2022 MY Jeep Wrangler 4xe
- 2023 MY Jeep Wrangler 4xe
These vehicles were produced between September 2, 2020 and August 17, 2022; those produced before or after these dates are not affected. Affected vehicles may experience an unexpected engine shutdown, resulting in a sudden loss of power while driving and increasing the likelihood of an accident. The components involved in the recall are unknown and the root of the problem is under investigation.
The manufacturer is aware of 112 customer records, 196 warranty claims, and 65 field reports that were potentially related to the recall issue for the two-year period from December 17, 2020 to October 26, 2022. Two accidents and one injury potentially related to this recall .
What to do if your Jeep is recalled?
Fiat Chrysler will update the vehicle calibration software in the transmission control module, hybrid control processor, and hybrid control auxiliary processor at the time of the recall, and will reimburse owners who incur any out-of-pocket costs related to the recall issue if they can provide receipt as proof.
