10 Morally Gray Sci-Fi Series Worth Watching After Andor
I may be speaking only for myself here, but Andor , the just-ended Disney+ series, revived a bit of a Star Wars passion that had been blunted by a succession of perfectly competent and entertaining films and miniseries that nonetheless started to feel like empty calories. The franchise doesn’t require strict messages or themes to thrive (sometimes space combat is enough), but SW has come to be seen as a product – which of course it is – not to mention something interesting. Digging into the earliest days of the central galactic rebellion and focusing on characters with really complex and surprising motivations, the series feels like something more important.
Of course, Andor is not the first series to deal with the themes of individualism and community, and the dangers of government over-involvement versus the dangers of rebellion and over-involvement. These shows are stories of (mostly) space rebels and revolutionaries, and with one exception, they are all complete stories with a beginning, middle, and end… they just aren’t necessarily as compact as Andor . Twelve episode season.
