Don’t Eat This Recalled Lettuce, FDA Says
If you live in Florida and recently bought a salad, you can check the label to see if it’s being recalled due to the risk of salmonella infection, according to a US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) statement. . Kalera is voluntarily recalling 633 crates of Krunch, Butter and Romaine whole salads sold under the Kalera brand to businesses across the state.
Why Calera Salad Was Recalled
Salmonella was found in two batches of six different types of whole lettuce during a routine food safety inspection of their stocks by Kalera. Kalera has reported the problem to the FDA; So far, the company has not received any reports of illness. Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in children, the elderly, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthier people may suffer from fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
The Orlando, Florida-based company says it is recalling 633 cases of whole-head lettuce varieties Krunch, Butter and Romaine with lot numbers 001293 and 001294 sold under the Kalera brand. The contaminated lettuce is limited to lettuce produced on the Orlando farm and distributed to retail and food service customers in Florida.
What to do if you remember the salad
If you have food in the refrigerator, the FDA recommends that you throw it away and not consume it. Be sure to thoroughly clean all surfaces the lettuce has come into contact with to avoid cross-contamination.
