Can You Create Your Own Custom Size Plastic Bags With a Hot Knife?
You know our best ideas come from TikTok, so when we saw this recent video asking for your favorite hack , we had to put it to the test.
At first glance, this hack seems reckless and dangerous. You heat a chef’s knife on an open burner on the stovetop and then cut open a resealable plastic bag. Presumably, the heat from the knife will close the sides of the bag, giving you a new half-size bag that will work just as well as the original.
Normally, I wouldn’t recommend that you heat up a sharp object at home until it’s red hot and then start cutting off pieces of plastic, but that was for science .
Aside from whether or not this hacker actually works (which you can see in the video above), we wondered why anyone would need plastic bags of this size. Have you ever felt like your bag is just double the width you really need? Ever felt like a smaller bag will keep food fresh? This is, of course, a formality. We didn’t come here to argue if anyone would need this hack, but to find out if a social media video does what it claims.
