How to Make Apple Music Less Painfully Slow

The Apple Music app is one of the biggest weaknesses of the app-based streaming service, which seems…not perfect. Whether you use your iPhone or Mac, the app has never been known for its speed; Reddit users especially like to complain about this . If you find that the Apple Music app is painfully slow, there are a few tricks to speed up the process.

Disable social features of Apple Music

Apple Music includes several social features ostensibly designed to help you discover new music that other users have shared. Turning them off should reduce the pain of loading an app’s animation.

To do this on iPhone, open the Listen Now tab of the Music app and select your profile icon. Disable Contacts in Apple Music and Allow Search by Apple ID . Then tap Notifications and turn off Friends Activity and Artists & Shows .

You can also disable these settings in the Music app on a Mac, where they are found under the Account menu in the Music app.

These tweaks should greatly reduce the time it takes for Apple Music to load search results, recommendations, and other pages.

Completely delete your Apple Music social profile

If disabling social features doesn’t speed up the app, consider completely deleting your Apple Music social profile. You’ll lose access to the Friends Mix playlist and other music recommendations based on what your friends are listening to, and your public playlists may also stop working properly, but the speed trade-off may be worth it.

Open the Listen Now tab again in the Music app and tap the profile icon in the corner. Select View Profile , click the Edit button, scroll down and select Delete Profile .

To do the same in the Music app for Mac, click the Listen Now tab in the sidebar and click your profile icon. Click Edit and select Delete Profile .

In my experience, deleting my social profile has definitely improved my productivity. The Apple Music download bar appears less frequently, and even with the VPN turned on, songs don’t take long to play.

Find an alternative Apple Music app

There are many great alternatives out there that will make Apple Music feel much faster than with the stock apps.

On your iPhone or iPad, you can try apps like Marvis Pro ($7.99) or Soor ($6.99), which let you use almost all of Apple Music’s best features without the bloat.

On your Mac or PC, Apple Music Web Player can also provide a smoother experience, especially if you’re using an older device. Open music.apple.com in your browser, sign in and you’re done.
