What’s New at Paramount+ in August 2022
When I was 11, I couldn’t imagine a more subversive TV show than Beavis and Butt-Head . It was like a cartoon—you know, for kids! — but focused almost exclusively on things that were vehemently forbidden in my home: swearing, watching music videos, hitting my brother in the head with a baseball bat, setting things on fire. . (Fire! Fire! Hehehe.) So I don’t know how to feel nearly 30 years later when the show returns and the only word I can think of to describe it is… quirky?
Today, the Internet has taken away all the vices of mankind with a simple Google; Seeing two stupid kids get into stupid trouble seems like exactly what I need to take my mind off…everything. Besides, these kids haven’t aged a day. All that has changed with the 2022 reboot, which will premiere on August 4, is that the duo will apparently be making fun of TikTok videos instead of music videos, which makes sense both for licensing reasons and because the show is no longer goes to MTV, which doesn’t play music videos anymore anyway.
If you want more Beavis and Butt-Head , more episodes of the original series will hit the streamer on August 3rd.
There are other goodies for animation fans, including a special South Park 25th Anniversary concert (no, that can’t be true, I’m not that old) on August 14; and the long-awaited third season of Star Trek: Lower Decks (August 25), secretly the second-best show of the current Trekking revival (after Strange New Worlds, of course).
Paramount+ is also releasing a couple of original films, including Orphan: The First Kill (August 19), the sequel to 2009’s Orphan , a horror film with one of my all-time favorite goofy endings.
