Could You Use a Car Table?
For over a year now, the home-based lifestyle has become the norm for many Americans, requiring us to modernize our premises to serve a dual purpose. During the pandemic, several very creative makeshift desks and home offices emerged, little more intriguing than a table in a car . Sounds like an accident waiting in the wings, but when used correctly (and safely), they can offer a practical way to turn your front or back seat into a work desk. And given the fact that many of us still don’t feel safe leaving our laptops in cafes for eight hours, this might be exactly what you need to find a truly dedicated workspace.
Steering wheel stand
Most car desk options come in the form of a steering wheel mount that attaches to the bottom of the steering wheel , creating the feel of a lap table for your car / office. This workspace works well if you’re on the go and have multiple tasks to complete before heading to your next meeting. Just park, put on the attachment, finish the letter or presentation, delete it and go. Likewise, it can make eating in the car that much more enjoyable.
Another option attaches to the top of the steering wheel, creating a taller table for easier typing. It also leaves more room for your legs, so if you are taller this will be a more comfortable option.
Passenger side table
The front passenger seat table top transforms your car into a real office. The caddy can hold file folders, pencils, and other equipment, and the top can swivel towards the driver’s seat so you can type easily, meaning you could theoretically be in the car all day long. Like a tilt table with a steering wheel, it’s perfect for when you need to make a change of scenery or just spend a few hours in a semi-private work space (until no one passing by is curious about what you are doing in your car).
Backseat table
If you have someone to drive you, a table in the back seat will help you get the job done on the road. These tables are attached to the front seat backrest and are adjustable to work at different heights. Some models even have cupholders and elegant wood grain finishes . I do not recommend working while driving (someone else) for those prone to motion sickness, as even a little typing while driving can derail your entire day.
