What to Do If WhatsDrop Stops Supporting Your IPhone
WhatsApp is the most popular chat app in the world with over two billion active users. Many of us rely on the app’s fun and unique features to communicate with friends and family around the world, so it’s imperative that the service continues to work on our iPhones. Unfortunately, WhatsApp is preparing to end support for certain versions of iOS and, by extension, some iPhone models. Is your one of them?
Let’s start with the good news: if your iPhone is still receiving software updates, you have nothing to worry about. In fact, some iPhones that Apple doesn’t support with updates will still be able to run WhatsApp without issue. However, this will still leave some users in the lurch. Let’s see who is affected by this drop in support.
Which iPhones will stop supporting WhatsApp?
WhatsApp is ending support for iOS 10 and iOS 11 , which Apple released to the public in 2016 and 2017 respectively. While losing support is never fun, software, especially mobile software, is often abandoned after a certain point. Apple supports its iPhones for up to seven years; after that, any support from certain apps is just a bonus, especially when the operating system is as old as iOS 10.
Fortunately, this drop in support does not happen immediately. WhatsApp is giving users time to react by only turning it off on October 24 this year. As reported by WABetaInfo , some users have already seen a notification urging them to update their iPhones before this fall date or they will lose access to WhatsApp on that particular device.
How to keep using WhatsApp on your old iPhone
So what does this mean for you? If your or someone you know’s iPhone is running iOS 10 or iOS 11, it won’t be ready for WhatsApp on October 24th. If your iPhone is compatible with at least iOS 12, you should update it as soon as possible. maybe, or at least until October. For example, if you’re using an iPhone 5S or iPhone 6 but running iOS 11, you’ll need to update to the latest iOS 12. These iPhones won’t be able to run Apple’s iOS 15 and all of its features. but you will still be able to use whatsapp.
What to do if your iPhone can’t update to at least iOS 12
However, if you have an iPhone 5 or iPhone 5c that can’t be updated to iOS 11, you won’t be able to use WhatsApp on your device after Meta support ends. Unfortunately, the only solution here is to update your iPhone to something that works with at least iOS 12, although it’s only a matter of time before that version of iOS is no longer supported.
We advise you to update your iPhone to what is currently supported by Apple. You also don’t have to buy a $1,000 iPhone: Apple’s current iPhone SE starts at $429 and comes with many of the modern features you’d expect from a more expensive iPhone. If you’re looking for something less expensive, the used phone market is a great place to look. You can find the still great iPhone 11 for $249 or the previous generation iPhone SE for $148. Both of these iPhones and other similar devices will be supported by apps like WhatsApp for years to come. Look around to find the WhatsApp mobile machine that works best for you.
