How to Fix Elden Ring Autosave Error (and Other Common Problems)
Players are finally immersed in Elden Ring , one of the most anticipated video games of this year. It received universal critical praise and has one of the highest combined scores of all time on Metacritic and OpenCritic , but all those excellent scores could not have predicted Elden Ring ‘s performance problems on launch day.
What’s wrong with saving Elden Ring data on PS5?
It’s not a trash can fire like some new video games can be on day one, but there are a few bugs that players should be aware of before venturing into the Lands Between. For example, one bug causes problems with saving data on the PlayStation 5 . The problem seems to be related to how the game automatically saves data – or, in this case, doesn’t automatically save data. If players close the Elden Ring app from the PS5 menu, turn off the console without saving, or even put the console into rest mode while playing, some data may not be saved. Hopefully FromSoftware will fix this in a future patch, but for now this issue should be avoided by saving and exiting the main menu before closing the game or shutting down the PS5.
Other Elden Ring bugs that players can fix themselves
FromSoftware plans to fix Elden Ring to address many of the major startup issues, including graphical stutters and slowdowns, that some PC players are experiencing. However, players can fix a number of minor bugs by simply closing and restarting the game, including:
- Controller and keyboard input not registering
- Bad NPC behavior or missing interaction hints
- Unable to open game menu
- Abnormally long loading times when fast moving
- Game objects and NPCs do not load or display properly, as well as other minor graphical glitches.
Please note that in some cases you may need to restart Steam if you are playing on PC or restart your console.
Reloading the game can also resolve occasional network issues such as the “Network status check failed” message or not being able to play an online co-op game, although this also happens when the game servers are overloaded in which case you might have to just wait network overload.
Minor bugs aside, Elden Ring really lives up to the hype – provided you enjoy FromSoftware’s complex RPGs. It’s a pity that the launch of the game turned out to be more difficult than expected, but hopefully the incoming updates will fix these lingering problems.
