What’s New on Hulu in March 2022

Real life crime dramas based on podcasts? Hulu got them in March when the streaming service launches a pair of miniseries featuring stars investigating the sordid cases of two women, one a convicted scammer and the other a convicted murderer, both based on popular podcasts.

The louder one is certainly The Dropout (March 3), the winner of the race to dramatize the headline scandalous fall story of Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, who had a great idea for the future of medicine. and who didn’t let her inability stop her from getting investors to give her plenty of money to start the company. This seven-episode miniseries is based on the podcast of the same name , which stars Amanda Seyfried as a baritone femme fatale and should not be confused with the currently in-development widescreen version starring Jennifer Lawrence . Oh Pam (March 11), which stars Renee Zellweger as Pam Hupp, a woman who has been accused of using one murder to potentially cover up another (and who is currently serving a life sentence in prison for her crimes). It’s the kind of sordid, twisty story that has also proved irresistible to fans of true crime podcasts . Other highlights of the month: Plainville Girl (March 29), starring Elle Fanning , another real crime series with a famous actress, although this one is not based on a podcast; the long-awaited season 3 premiere of Atlanta by Donald Glover (March 25); and the streaming launch of several critically acclaimed 2021 films, including Paul Verhoeven’s Benedetta (March 4) and the noisy but strangely titled Bad Luck or Crazy Porn (March 17), a Romanian import about a schoolteacher , whose sex tape was leaked online. Internet. And then there ‘s the American Song Contest (March 22), the local answer to Eurovision, which I’m not sure anyone asked for.
