Clean up Old Books With This Sorting System

If you are the type of person who has a lot of books, you know that in the end, finding a place for them often becomes more difficult than they are worth. In Root Simple, they offer a simple sorting method to help clear the clutter of your bookshelf so that you have the books you really want.

When you’re scrubbing out your old books, it can be difficult to decide what is worth keeping and what is not. The Root Simple method is pretty simple:

A book was released into the Universe if:

  • I have read and understood the information
  • There is a copy in the library
  • It doesn’t make me happy
  • I don’t think I’ll ever read this
  • My interests have changed
  • I read part, but I don’t think I will read the rest.

I saved the book if:

  • This is the one I regularly refer to for reference.
  • It makes me happy
  • It is especially beautiful as an object (only one or two books fell into this category – I’m not a collector)
  • I’m really going to read this
  • I want to re-read this

This is a fairly simple system and can probably be tweaked a bit to cover other media that might be taking up space on your shelves (or hard drives). Go to Root Simple to get the full post.
