“Continue to Sew the Next Stitch – No Stitches, You Just Have Rags.”
If you ever get bored of doing the same thing over and over every day, it’s important to remember how valuable our daily routine really is.
Our daily life consists of routines and habits – good and bad, and without them our life would not develop at all. You may get bored of repeating the same thing over and over, but it’s your daily routine that propels you forward. Anne Lamotte, author of Stitches: A Guide to Meaning, Hope, and Repair , explains another way of looking at our day to day affairs:
You must continue to sew the next required stitch, and the next, and the next. Rags remained without seams. And we are not rags.
Our routines make up who we are. We need structure and repetition in our lives to stay on track. Of course, if it’s really hard for you, there is nothing wrong with changing your routine in some way. Just don’t let the routine confuse you. Keep stitching and remind yourself that a good daily routine develops discipline, and discipline allows you to create more good routines in the future. You will achieve anything not with giant leaps, but with tiny steps.
