“Actions for This Day, Actions Every Day”

Every day that you wake up is another day that requires a solution, tasks and goals to be achieved. While you may spend months or years pondering what to do, there is one answer that encompasses everyone: take action.

As “The Art of Manliness” discusses in its Winston Churchill series, action is necessary to achieve anything. While this seems obvious, we are often tempted to do nothing or wait for the right moment. It may be prudent to wait for the right moment to take certain actions. But expecting something to come to you will get you nowhere. Some action needs to be taken today. And some actions need to be taken every day:

Churchill’s action-oriented philosophy helped turn the tide of the war. As Manchester writes, Winston understood that victory could only be achieved by “vigorous exercise of his imagination and willpower by the only means he knew — action, action today, action every day.” When Churchill first took the reins into his own hands, his energies fully electrified his headquarters and transformed an operation that had previously been sluggish and sluggish.

The site goes on to explain how Churchill would categorize any task into one of two categories: “This Day Action” or “Three Days Report.” This approach can work for almost everything in your life. Either you can do something about a task – however small – today, or you can come back to it later. But no matter what, take action to reach your goals every day if you ever want to make progress towards achieving them.
