Looney Tunes Animator Chuck Jones on How to Be Funny: It’s About Delivery
A good sense of humor can make you more charismatic and become the kind of person people love to be with. It’s not always easy to be funny, though, and legendary animator Chuck Jones believes that the main thing is how you say or do something, not what you say or do.
Chuck Jones, best known for his animation and directing Looney Tunes, has been nominated for eight Academy Awards and received four for his cartoons. Needless to say, Jones, who passed away in 2002, knew comedy pretty darn well. Jones believed there was a secret in all of this:
“A comedian is not a person who opens a funny door – he is a person who opens a door funny.”
Have you ever tried hearing someone repeat a comedian’s joke? It’s amazing how unfunny that can be. Therefore, when working on jokes and humorous conversations, remember that you do not need to worry about the material. Instead, think about ways to be funny without relying on the “funny door”. Of course, you shouldn’t joke all the time, but your sense of humor can take you much further than you think .
