Google Adds Health Information From Real Doctors to Search Results
Google announced today that it will add health information to search results with cards containing answers about symptoms, potential treatments and other information, under the supervision of a team of doctors.
While most Google search results are either pulled from web sources or populated with publicly available Google user data, health information can be fuzzy if you get it from a poor source. As such, Google says it has teamed up with its own internal medical team, as well as Mayo Clinic doctors of medicine, to provide answers and even illustrations for a myriad of common health-related queries.
The company immediately notes that these search results are not intended to be used as medical advice (presumably for legal reasons) and to always consult a doctor. However, we hope this will help reduce the number of people getting trashy medical advice on obscure forums through good SEO. Search results will appear in the next few days, so if you don’t see them, take your time.
