Use Leftover Ramen Seasoning Bags for a Delicious Sauce
Ramen is delicious, but if you make it yourself, with your own seasonings, you can make something really great without relying on the little packets of seasonings that come in the package. Don’t throw them away – they are really great for tortillas or potato chips.
All you need to make an awesome sauce from these bags is another ingredient: sour cream. When I make ramen at home – assuming I’m not making my own – I usually season the noodles and broth myself, instead of using seasoning bags, which are often too salty (and not spicy or flavorful enough). That said, the Lucky Peach staff have great advice for any packets of ramen seasoning you may have left lying in the pantry: mix them with sour cream and use for the sauce.
Seriously, I’ve tried it myself and I can vouch for it. It tastes great (especially with an “oriental” flavor, although I suppose shrimp or chicken will work as well) and you don’t need to add anything. Bonus tip: You can do the same with cheap bags of onion soup from the grocery store if you’re a fan of creamy onion sauce.
