Increase Motivation by Consulting Your Past and Future
If you find yourself losing motivation to actually do what you told yourself to do – finish work, exercise, eat right, etc. – but end up saying, “I don’t like this,” you are. ” you’re not alone. In fact, you have two other versions of yourself that are always on your team.
You are yourself right now. You are not sure about things and need persuasion and motivation, but you can help in the past and in the future. Leo Babauta of Zen Habits invites you to turn to other versions of yourself when you just “don’t feel like doing something”:
Past Me said to do it, and Future Me will thank me, so let’s do it.
You have a whole team supporting you and you didn’t even know about it. Think of others as yourself as the shoulders of angels inciting you, without the visible shoulder of the devil. Your future self can be a particularly useful ally , so listen to them the next time you feel demotivated. You have to honestly try them.
