Personalize Your Flash Drive or Portable Storage With a Customizable Background
Windows: Flash drives all too often look the same. If you are on a PC, Windows allows you to create your own background using the desktop.ini file.
We’ve covered using a custom icon for your drives, but you can change the background when you open files in File Explorer. If you are just trying to personalize your data or get it back if it gets lost , you need to save the image to the root of the drive. Name it background.jpg
and then create a file called desktop.ini in Notepad (be sure to remove the .txt extension). Place it in the root of the disk with this code in the file:
[ExtShellFolderViews] {BE098140-A513-11D0-A3A4-00C04FD706EC}={BE098140-A513-11D0-A3A4-00C04FD706EC} [{BE098140-A513-11D0-A3A4-00C04FD706EC}] Attributes=1 IconArea_Image=background.jpg
If you want to change the background image, just replace the background.jpg file.

UPDATE: This feature has been removed in later versions of Windows. This does not work on Windows 7 or 8.
