Find Your “theme” to Make the Best Decisions and Shape Your Goals
Difficult decisions are much easier when you have direction. To give yourself a starting point for these decisions, find the “theme” of your life. Find your theme in your views, hobbies and interests.
The dumb little man proves the importance of having a theme in your life. Namely, it gives you direction. But before going into details, what is the theme of life ? They define it as a unifying message that brings together your interests, hobbies, favorite books, movies, quotes, etc. Writer Lovelyn Bettison says:
I first came to my attention once when I was going through a bunch of poems and stories that I had written. I began to notice some similarities in them. I thought it was interesting, so I thought a little. Then I started noticing similarities in the videos I chose to watch online and in the images I shared on social media. The words I used to encourage friends and family were all based on the same message. Then I realized that this is my topic. This was the message that I most needed to convey to the world.
Your topic may not necessarily be a specific message or life lesson. It might just be your outlook on life, even if it’s not reassuring. Perhaps your topic is research and the search for truth. I know this looks pretentious. But it is useful for setting specific goals. For example, if you want to write a book, you have a better understanding of the topics that interest you.
Knowing your topic can help you articulate your goals, make better decisions, meet like-minded people, and just understand yourself a little better. This sounds pretty general, but it offers some specific tips for finding your topic. In general, this includes listing your hobbies, interests and philosophies and looking for similarities in all of them.
