Keep a Dish That Is Too Spicy With a Little Acid

Sometimes we overdo it a little when we cook. If your spicy food gets too hot, a little acid will help cut through it.

Sometimes it’s hard to tell how spicy too much will be, but that doesn’t necessarily mean your dish is spoiled. As counterintuitive as it sounds, Andrea Lynn of the food blog Serious Eats suggests adding as much acid as possible to your dish. You can use different types of vinegar, lemon juice, lime juice, or any other acid you may have on hand. Just make sure it doesn’t change the flavors you’ve already created too much. You can also add some sweets or dairy products if you have them, and carrots or potatoes can help absorb some of the spices as well.
