How to Get a Blue Checkmark Confirmation Badge on Your Twitter Account
Twitter’s verification process may change soon. The social media company announced plans to update its verification process last year, and recent data suggests the new process could take effect as early as next week.
Engineer and tech blogger Jane Manchun Wong tweeted about several upcoming Twitter features, including screenshots of an alleged new confirmation request form. While Wong is not working with Twitter, they say the updated verification process and screenshots of the request form are being reviewed “from multiple sources,” and that “Twitter plans to launch a new self-service request form next week.
If Wong’s sources and screenshots are correct, the new verification process will allow users to select the type of verified account they are applying for and submit identification materials via a new request form. Account types include activists, companies, content creators, artists, government officials, journalists, social media influencers, professional athletes, and esports figures. Twitter will soon be labeling verified users as journalists, artists, and so on, as it does for government and state-affiliated media , Wong said.
The new confirmation request tool should make it easier to get started, but the guidelines for getting and maintaining verified status on Twitter remain the same. How to apply for Twitter verification
Before you begin the verification process, your account must be public and your profile must include your real name, date of birth, accurate information in your bio, and you must use your real photo as your profile picture. You will also need a valid phone number and email address added to your account. These are the minimum requirements.
From there, you can start the application process by going to Settings> Request Confirmation . Based on Wong’s screenshots, the new request form begins by asking what type of verified account you are applying for.
Then you must choose a qualification method. Options reportedly include Google Trends articles, Wikipedia pages, news articles, or official executive websites if you’re applying to be a part of the company. You will need to submit links to three valid sources corresponding to your chosen qualification method .
You will then need to verify your identity with a government-issued ID (such as a driver’s license or passport) or an official email address or website associated with your company’s domain name.
Twitter will review your application after you submit it, and you will receive a notification shortly. If your request is accepted, you will receive the coveted blue checkmark; otherwise, you can wait 30 days and submit a new application.
