Caramelize the Onions and Make French Onion Soup in the Multicooker

Making French onion soup from scratch can be a lengthy process, especially if you don’t have pre-caramelized onions on hand. If you plan ahead, a multicooker can do most of the work for you.

Caramelizing onions properly takes time, and while there are a few things you can do to speed up the process, chances are you may not get the flavor you want. Faith Durand from culinary blog The Kitchn suggests that multivarka instead do all the heavy conditions . Chop a few onions and toss them in a multicooker with a little oil, olive oil, salt and pepper. Cook overnight on low heat, or at least 12 hours. Boom, whole lot of caramelized onions. Add the stock and other ingredients in the morning and simmer for another six to eight hours.

When it’s time for lunch, pour the soup into several oven-safe bowls, add toast and some Gruyere cheese, and bake in the oven until the cheese is melted. Sear the serving bowls for a couple of minutes until the top layer turns brown and bubbly and you are ready to eat.
