Peerio Offers End-to-End Encrypted File Sharing, Giving You Complete Control

Windows / Mac / Chrome: Encrypted cloud storage services are not hard to find , but when you need to send a file to someone else and want to make sure you retain some control over it (and it remains encrypted), you have less option. Peerio is a new service that simplifies this entire process.

The video above gives you a quick guide on how the service works and why it is important to control your own encryption. Peerio never gets your keys, so they can’t decrypt your files even if they want to. Likewise, when you share a file, you have to share it with another Peerio user (which might complicate things, but registration is free) and you are essentially giving that user permission to also decrypt your file with their key, which again. Peerio does not have access to. All of your files are encrypted before they leave your computer, and they are encrypted in transit before they are encrypted on Peerio’s servers.

Peerio is more of a secure messaging and file sharing service than cloud storage – you only get about 1.3 GB of registration space. Messages sent between users work like instant messages and you can see where your files are being sent after you’ve sent them. You can see when they were opened, and at any time you can “destroy” them so that any user who has them in their mailbox can delete them and revoke permissions. The Chrome app supports messages and other notifications in real time.

The service is owned by the same people as the previously mentioned Cryptocat , and while the service is free at the moment, they plan to add paid features in the future (things like increasing storage, for example). Mobile users: Android and iOS apps are already available. way soon. Click on the link below to find out more.
