Blur Uses Disposable Credit Card Numbers to Scare Off Hackers

After all the recent news about credit hacking, many people have become a little hesitant about the use of plastic. Blur is a service that makes your purchases a little more secure by generating “fake” credit card numbers to deter hackers.

Blur is previously DoNotTrackMe, which we talked about here . It is a browser extension and mobile app and they have made many updates to the service since then. One of the coolest features is credit card masking, which allows you to buy items without actually revealing any information. This feature is free for thirty days, but then it costs $ 4.99 per month.

After registering and downloading the browser extension, when you make an online purchase, you will see a “Protect my card” pop-up notification, in which you can use the disguised card. Blur will automatically create and insert a one-time use number, security code, and expiration date. You can also use this function in the store with the app. Simply enter the amount you want to pay in the app, tell the cashier where you are, and give the cashier your credit card information.

Business Insider Reports :

“Masked cards are useful because they don’t leave a trace of your real credit card in all the databases where you shop,” says Abine co-founder and CEO Rob Shavell. “The principle behind what we do to ensure security is very simple: hackers can’t steal what they don’t have.”

As far as security is concerned, they do not store actual information about your credit card.

This data is encrypted and stored by the company’s banking partner. “In fact, however, consumers shouldn’t trust us more than any other merchant,” he said. “The advantage is that the more [consumers] shop with masked cards, the less room for their real cards.”
