Mathematical Reason Not to Use Perfect Photos for Online Dating

When trying to create the perfect online dating profile, you might want to think twice before using an image that makes you look exceptionally good. A little math explains why a not-so-so profile picture can increase your chances of meeting someone.

In a recent TED talk, mathematician Hannah Fry took the stage to discuss the mathematics of love and how you can use that mathematics to your advantage. Using data gleaned from OKCupid, Fry explains how being too good looking in a photo limits your overall range. When you look too good in a photo, it can make people feel like they don’t stand a chance on you, so they don’t worry. Of course, a really awful photo doesn’t help much either, but a photo somewhere in between is what you need. You want to look attractive without looking out of reach. Express what sets you apart and maintain your tone on Earth. There are many great ways to make sure your profile picture is helping you and not hurting you , but you probably want to save the glamorous shots for something else.
