Relieve Anxiety With This Reflection Exercise

We all worry about things from time to time, but too much worry only increases our stress levels. If you tend to be anxious, this quick exercise will help you get rid of the worries that are in your head.

Chronic people who are worried usually end up worrying about things they don’t need to worry about, so if that sounds like you, some sort of filter can reduce most of the worry to begin with. Another aspect of anxiety is how it affects you mentally. Byron Cathy, the creator of the self-improvement process ” Jobs “, has developed a system of simple questions that will help you solve your problems right away:

  1. It’s true? (Yes or no. If not, skip to 3.)
  2. Can you know for sure that this is true? (Yes or no.)
  3. How do you react, what happens when you believe this thought?
  4. Who would you be without this thought?

The first part of the exercise will help you get rid of things you don’t need to think about at all. More importantly, the second part forces you to look inward to really see how your anxiety can affect you in a negative way. In particular, the last question can be useful on its own, because we usually find it difficult to imagine what we could be. Maybe you will become much happier without worrying, or maybe you will have a clearer head when the time comes to act.
