Choose the Best Cabin on Your Cruise by Checking the Deck Plan
Cruises can be a great way to spend your vacation . Make your next one even better by using the deck plan to choose the best room. By comparing the location of the terraces, you can determine which rooms are in an undesirable location and which are close to amenities.
Conde Nast Traveler explains how terrace plans can be used to separate a room from noisy common areas and the like.
Check floor plans for proximity to noisy elevators, restaurants, entertainment venues, and high traffic areas. Remember, you don’t want to endure persistent nightclub knocks or overhead pool furniture rearrangements. Personal open space is critical, especially if your itinerary includes many days at sea. Request a balcony if your budget allows. Smoking is allowed on balconies on some ships, so check the cruise line’s policies so you don’t get hurt every time a neighbor lights up.
In my cruising experience, the layout of the cabin matters much more than its size. There are so many things to do on a cruise – from delicious dining to exciting entertainment – that you don’t actually spend much time in your room. Choosing a great seat can mean you never have to sleep at night by the dance floor above you, or walk all the way through the ship to get to your favorite activities. Most major cruise lines have deck plans available on their websites. If they don’t, just contact customer service and ask them.
