Turn Your Homemade Game Into DIY Onion and Garlic Powder Sauce

Many of us know that fruits , vegetables and herbs need to be frozen to prolong their life. But there is another, lesser-known way to make the most of onions and garlic: oven dry them to create your own powders.

Bar Tartine chefs Courtney Burns and Nicholas Balla stop at Epicurious’s test kitchen to demonstrate that homemade garlic and onion powders are actually quite simple to prepare, and provide an intensely layered flavor that cannot be obtained from a store-bought shaker. garlic powder or onion powder.

The easiest way to do this is to fry the garlic or onion in a skillet and then dry it in a gas oven (although an electric oven or dehydrator will work as well); grind into large flakes, dehydrate a little more in the oven and finally process the results in a spice mill. If you’re worried that this sounds engaging, it isn’t: expect it to only take about 15 minutes of active work from start to finish.

The resulting powders are ideal for next-level cooking when mixed with sour cream, cheese and caramelized onions. They are also great for steak marinade, grilling, or anything else you can dream of. Click the Epicurious link below for full instructions.
