Build a Better Wardrobe by Following the One-Third Rule
Most of us buy more clothes than we wear regularly . However, if you always want to look like a million dollars, the best shopping strategy is to buy fewer but better quality clothes. Author Vicky Oliver recommends the one-third rule.
Buy one third less clothes than you do now, but spend three times more on each item.
Rather than buying multiple pairs of mid-priced pants, choose to invest in one pair of luxurious Armani black 100% wool pants and wear them everywhere. Apply the same logic to every piece in your wardrobe. Buy one $ 2,000 suit and never take it off if necessary. But don’t spend a dime on fancy items or impulsive purchases.
“Clothes are an investment,” writes Oliver. By changing your clothing budget, you will not only get better quality clothing, but you will also reduce the size of your wardrobe and get less of a cluttered toilet.
