Protect Your Credit Card by Looking for Gas Station Security Labels
Thieves find many creative ways to steal your financial information. Skimming gas station credit card readers is a popular method. Fortunately, some pumps make it easy to see if they have been tampered with with tamper-proof labels.
You may have noticed these shortcuts, but they are easy to miss. Basically, these are stickers that attach to the pump and the door of the credit card unit. If a thief tries to enter the hatch to insert the skimmer, the label will say: VOID.
Jennifer Kalonia of GOBankingRates says that when her card was stolen a few years ago, she went back to the gas station where she last used it, and of course the tamper-resistant label was broken. If there is a label, it is always important to make sure it is not broken. If so, you obviously don’t want to use your card, but Calonia also suggests contacting local authorities to report fraud at gas stations in the area.
Thevideo above shows how these labels are usually attached to the pumps. For more tips on how to protect your credit card information while pumping, check out its full post at the link below.
