Tell Your Boss You Are Overwhelmed With These Scripts.

We all know it’s sometimes hard to say no to a job, but often it also involves figuring out how to prioritize when bosses, clients, and coworkers keep accumulating more on your plate. Muse has put together some useful scripts to solve this problem.

The bottom line is pretty simple: Explain that you are busy right now, but at some point you can help, or ask if you need to prioritize. Here’s an example of a conversation with a manager:

IN ORDER! I can definitely tackle this, but I would like to revisit a few things before proceeding.

My current priorities now are: [list them in order].

Would you like this new assignment to be my top priority?

If so, this is not a problem, but it does mean that – since we are moving several other items down the list – all my other projects will be completed a little later.

I can draw up a timetable for when this is complete, if that would be helpful to you.

Thanks!

This is a simple thing to do, but it will help you avoid overwhelming yourself. Go to The Muse for scripts to speak with a colleague or client.
