If You Need to Use Technology at Night, Try a Smaller Screen

Using the screen at night gets in the way of your sleep , but let’s be honest: that’s what we all do. To reduce the problem, use as small a screen as possible.

At Fast Company, they share a few tips for those of us who refuse to turn off our devices at the end of the night. They interviewed Dr. Mariana Figueiro, program director of the Lighting Research Center at the Rensselaer Polytechnic. One tip that Figueiro suggested was to keep the screen small:

What matters is how much light, especially shortwave (blue) light, reaches the retina. A device that emits more blue light will be more effective at suppressing melatonin, ”says Figueiro. “The iPad can affect us more than the iPhone because it is bigger and usually emits more light.”

Obviously, it’s best to deny technology at night, but if you’re choosing between a laptop, tablet, or phone, go for a phone. See the link for more tips on how to get a good night’s sleep.
