Motivate Your Holiday by Organizing an ‘exchange Party’

Looking at the huge pile of things you never use isn’t enough motivation to start decluttering, getting your friends and family involved in their own chill projects can help. This is where swap parties come in handy.

Clearing the clutter is hard work, so don’t be ashamed if your motivation just isn’t there. Apartment Therapy’s Caroline Purnell suggests that group motivation from hosting an exchange party may be the medicine you need. At the exchange party, everyone brings with them everything they want to get rid of, which is still useful, and people can trade or take things that they really need, getting rid of everything they don’t. This is motivating for three reasons:

  1. You set a date for the party and that gives you a clear goal and deadline.
  2. At the end of your hard work, you are rewarded with hanging out with friends, enjoying good food and drink, and possibly purchasing a useful item you need.
  3. You feel responsible and don’t want to show up empty-handed (or you might even get competitive and try to get as many things as possible).

After the party, everything that no one needs is handed out or sold. You can even make your exchange parties a regular occurrence to keep from piling up clutter. Sometimes it just takes a little planning to get rid of the unnecessary stuff . Follow the link below to find out more.
