Find a Partner to Help Resist Tempting Sales Offers
When you need to buy a new car or computer, you can often come across a pushy salesperson who has a plan for your purchase. Avoid engaging in suspicious sales tactics by bringing a friend with you.
As personal finance blog Money Ning points out, having a partner who knows what you need but is not financially or emotionally involved in the deal can make it easier to get rejected. This is especially helpful if the person has some knowledge of the product. Moreover, it is more difficult for a persistent salesperson to reject decisions by two people, not just one:
If you are easily persuaded, bring reinforcements, such as a friend or family member. Tell them exactly what you are looking for and what you want to spend on. If the seller is trying to sell you more, ask a friend to step in before you make the wrong decision.
You can even use this to your advantage when it comes to negotiation. If the sales rep you are talking to does not offer a favorable deal, discuss it with your partner. Take time away from your reputation if necessary. The longer you fail to say yes, the more leverage you will have.
