Make Your Own Noise Canceling Headphones With Silicone and Old Earplugs
The best headphones offer some noise isolation, but if the ones you have are terrible or keep falling out of your ears, Instructables NightHawkinLight user can make their own customized noise isolation headphones with a pair of reusable earplugs and clear silicone. and some elbow grease.
The video above shows you how the whole process works, but if you can’t watch the video, it’s really super fast: just remove the tips from your current crappy earbuds and grab a pair of reusable earplugs with the best tips, or those you find more comfortable. … The nice thing is that earplugs tend to be cheap (often cheaper than headphones, but more on that later), so you can try a couple of pairs if you don’t know which works best. NightHawkinLight used a pair of 3M Peltor Tri-Flange earplugs , which cost about $ 5 a pack of three. Remove the tips of the earplugs, cut them to size and attach to the headphones. Then apply a silicone layer around the liner and base of the newly added tip (which creates a damping seal around the tip body and base).
When you’re done, your new headphones should be comfortable, insulated, and more durable, and you’ll only spend a few dollars updating them. Best of all, you can do this with just about any pair of earbuds (although we wouldn’t recommend sticking an expensive pair with silicone), even some of the cheap but cool pairs we’ve recommended in the past.
