Midsummer Night Desktop
It’s summertime on the boulevard, and this beautiful Arch Linux desktop takes us to the beach. Our friend dobbie03 sent it and this is how he did it.
Dobbie03 recently switched from Manjaro to Arch proper (you may remember his latest Manjaro desktop ) and created this beautiful workspace for him – one that makes us yearn for all the great things that warm weather brings. If you like the look, here’s what you’ll need to recreate it:
- The wallpapers he uploaded to us
- Gnome Shell 3.16 , which he highly recommends
- Action configurator for Gnome Shell to customize button and action bar
- Vertex Light GTK theme for general user interface
- Ozon OS Icon Pack along with Vertex Icons
- Conky , a lightweight system monitor for Linux systems
- Elegance Rainmeter Conky theme, a Conky theme designed to look like Rainmeter’s Elegance 2 theme (if you couldn’t tell)
- CoverGloobus utility on desktop as monitor player / music player
- Jane Austen cover, Globe theme to customize it
That’s all. Dobbie03 did a lot of themes and settings myself, which is great. He shared several other screenshots of his desktop at work, such as this one below with windows open:
And this one below, which shows CoverGloobus and Conky (and a few more things):
Some of his tweaks and tweaks are unique, so if you’re trying to copy this to your Linux desktop and run into problems, head over to his Kinja blog post (link below) to read more and ask questions. He has a ton of more details on how he did it all, and more details on his setup so you can see how he gets them all done. Let him know we sent you and that we love his work!
Do you have a beautiful and functional desktop to show off? Share with us! Post it to your personal Kinja blog using the Desktop Showcase tag or add it to our Lifehacker Desktop Show and Tell Flickr pool . Screenshots must be at least 640×360 in size and include information about what you used, links to wallpapers, skins and themes, and any other important information. If your wonderful desktop catches our attention, you may be on our favorites!
