Build a Carpenter’s Workbench That Can Handle Any Project
A standard workbench is just a sturdy table, but a real woodworking workbench is designed to hold wood of various sizes, so you can saw, drill, and sand your project without moving.
Do-it-yourself woodworking workbench is made of construction timber using basic connections. It is designed to be heavy enough not to slide out from under you while you work, and tough enough to support the weight and clamping forces you will put on it.
A real carpenter’s bench such as this one will include a number of different work-holding mechanisms including benches , planing stops , holding posts or board jacks , and will also have one or more woodworking vices built into its structure.
The design is based on this video from Start Woodworking , which is based on a plan from Sam Allen’s book Making Workbenches .
All necessary equipment and lumber can be purchased from your local home center. At a minimum, the tools required include a drill, circular saw, and hand-held milling machine, as well as a few attachments, fixtures, and specialized bits.
