You Can’t Reach Your Goals If You Never Work on Them.
Goals are not the same as working towards them. Many of us have things that we would like to achieve, but which remain at heart. But if you never get out of your head and get into the workshop, those goals will never go anywhere.
As British songwriter Noel Gallagher explains to Rolling Stone, the next hit song is impossible without a guitar in his hands. Likewise, you will never create a killer app without touching the code, or get a new job without completing an application. Goals are what you strive for. Key word “work”:
It’s like fishing. The guitar is your fishing rod, and if I don’t catch this song, fucking Bono will get it, and if not, then Chris Martin will get it. And fuck these two guys because they’ve had enough. We all fish in the same river and it’s merciless, baby.
We all don’t have cool things like guitars to work on, but for most of us, our goals have real, real instruments that we need to get anywhere. If you are not at your desk, in the garage, on the road, or wherever you are to work towards your goals, then you are not actually doing work on them. The goals you are not working towards are desires.
